Project Description

The project, which stands for “Refrigerated Optimized Advanced Design”, aims to design the world’s first refrigerated semi-trailer with its cooling unit that runs on hydrogen instead of diesel.

In a context of energy transition, the objective is twofold

to provide a system capable of reducing carbon impact, and noise pollution,
improve operating conditions and reduce costs.
H2SYS worked with FCLAB to replace the diesel generator that powers the refrigeration unit with a state-of-the-art system.

Our team developed and designed a hybrid hydrogen-powered generator. The system consists of a 10 kW fuel cell system, coupled with a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack, which provides an energy storage capacity of 28 kWh.

It is equipped with two high-pressure hydrogen tanks (350 bars) which allow to store 14 kg of hydrogen. This configuration offers an autonomy of 3 days.

After two years of design, development and tests, the prototype is put on the road and tested by several big names in logistics. A first in the world “Made In France”.
